A gala dinner on 12 March 2016 marked the beginning of the celebrations of the School of Engineering's 60th Anniversary which will be commemorated throughout 2016.  Pioneers of the Faculty of Engineering and current stakeholders of the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (EBIT) came together to celebrate a legacy of hope, innovation and change.   The keynote speaker of the evening was Mr Norman Mbazima, the CEO of Kumba Iron Ore.  He shared the stage with Prof GT van Rooyen who was the first Head of the Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Prof Jan Malherbe who was the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering from 1989 - 1998.  Prof Cheryl de la Rey, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria addressed the audience and confirmed that the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology is undoubtedly a flagship of the University of Pretoria.

Prof Sunil Maharaj, the Dean of the Faculty of EBIT was the host for the evening and he launched the 60 Year booklet which was compiled by Prof Pienaar.  This booklet commemorates the history and achievements of the faculty, honours its pioneers and inspires present leaders in the faculty to continue with their excellent work and their contributions to create a better tomorrow.  We salute our stakeholders.
