Prof Stella Nkomo, who holds a strategic appointment in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences’ Department of Human Resource Management, has become the third recipient of the African Academy of Management (AFAM) Trailblazer Award. Sponsored by Emerald Publishing, the award was initiated by AFAM to honour and recognise scholars who have taken a leadership role in the promotion and advancement of management scholarship about Africa or management education in Africa.

AFAM President Prof Baniyelme Zoogah had this to say to Prof Nkomo: “Your work on management issues in Africa blazed the trail and contributed to moving the field of management. Additionally, your achievements and contributions make you a role model for all of us who have committed ourselves to building management knowledge about Africa.”

The award was presented to Prof Nkomo, who is a founding member and former AFAM President, during the 5th AFAM Biennial Conference recently hosted in Lagos, Nigeria. Her internationally recognised research on gender and diversity in organisations has been published in numerous journals and books.

Prof Zoogah further explained that the award honours scholars who have distinguished themselves in making significant contribution to organisational phenomena in Africa using scientific methods, or who have contributed to the development and improvement of research and teaching of management in organisations in Africa.
