Mr Arno Meyer: A supply chain management trailblazer

Supply Chain Management lecturer Mr Arno Meyer has made history by being the first academic in the Department of Business Management to obtain the Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) designation. This professional designation is awarded by the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), which is the international association for supply chain management. The APICS (CSCP) designation demonstrates professional knowledge and organisational skills for developing more streamlined supply chain management practices and operations and is recognised in over 100 countries.
 
Mr Meyer was also part of the cohort of academic staff in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences who were honoured for their excellence in teaching and research contribution at the Faculty’s annual awards function, held in June 2018. Mr Meyer received the Research Award: First Article Publication for his research publications titled ‘The dark side of close relationships between buyers and suppliers: An exploration in the South African 3PL industry’ and ‘Drivers and barriers of reverse logistics practices: A study of large grocery retailers in South Africa’.
 
Remarking on the significance of his achievements, he said: “This strengthens the Supply Chain Management degree offering at the University of Pretoria, and also in South Africa, as we aim for it to be the benchmark Supply Chain Management degree in the country.”
