Prof Jordaan wins best paper award

Posted on May 22, 2018

Prof Yolanda Jordaan, Head of the Department of Marketing Management, attended the 382nd International Conferences on Economics and Social Sciences (ICESS) in London on 7 May 2018. This conference is hosted by the Institute of Research Engineers and Scientists, which is a nonprofit organisation that promotes the latest research developments and issues to be discussed amongst researchers and academics across the globe.

Prof Jordaan presented a paper titled ‘Expectations and intention to support socially responsible behaviour of organisations’, stemming from research by Angela Neale, a master’s degree student in the Department of Marketing Management.

With the increase globally in organisations that are adopting corporate social responsibility philosophies, this paper was well received. The study confirmed several corporate social responsibility expectations, namely economical, ethical, legal, philanthropic and environmental expectations. Findings from a South African sample indicated that legal, ethical and environmental issues positively predicted consumers’ intention to support a socially responsible organisation, and thus give guidance to organisations in terms of where their focus should have the biggest impact.

The research paper received the best paper award at the conference. Below is Prof Jordaan holding her award.

The conference provided a platform for academics to participate in research discussions, as well as a valued opportunity to network with researchers from all over the world, including Malaysia, Jordan and Thailand.
