The ALRCL involved in the 8th Ecosystem Services Conference

Posted on December 01, 2015

Dr Joël Houdet Senior Research Fellow at the Albert Luthuli Centre for Responsible Leadership, co-facilitated a Natural Capital Protocol workshop with the Natural Capital Coalition and Conservation International on 8 November 2015.

The aim of the workshop was to gather insights on a draft protocol and sector guidelines for better decision making regarding the impacts and dependencies businesses have on nature. The workshop included discussions on the scope, structure, content and applications of the framework, as well as role-playing discussions based on several case studies.

On 10 November 2015, the Ecosystem Services in Business session, lead by Dr Houdet, took place at the 8th World Ecosystem Services Partnership conference. The session aimed to discuss the state of global research and practice regarding the business-natural capital nexus, mainly seen through the lens of natural capital accounting for business. It also aimed to showcase case studies in key business applications or contexts, identify research gaps and needs, and make tangible links with the broader discourse on greener, more inclusive development.
