Dr Adeline Pretorius worked as a dietician for several years in a variety of clinical settings both locally and abroad. She joined UP as a lecturer in 2014, lecturing nutrition-related subjects and supervising postgraduate students. Her previous research focussed on the resting energy expenditure of different populations.  With her PhD studies, she extended this research to identify factors influencing resting energy expenditure and physical activity of young children. Her research has been published and presented at local and international conferences and she was part of the research team awarded the prize for the best poster presentation for originality and contribution to nutritional science at the 27th Biennial Congress of the Nutrition Society of South Africa in 2018. Her interest in dietary interventions to combat non-communicable diseases led to her current research focus to identify and address malnutrition in communities and schools through nutrition intervention programs, and the development and distribution of nutritious food products.
