Dr Mehlomakulu is a lecturer at the department of Consumer Sciences and Food Sciences, University of Pretoria. She currently lectures on fruit and vegetable processing. Her research focus is the processing of fruit and vegetables, specifically post-harvest quality and preservation of fresh produce. She has experience in yeast biotechnology and has worked on non-saccharomyces yeasts as cheese starter cultures or sources of antimicrobial compounds used in lowering the ethanol content of wine. Her research interest is food preservation using biological methods and processes.
