Specific Terms of Reference of the Teaching and Learning Committee are as follows:

Interact with DoHET, CHE/ HEQC, USA (Universities South Africa), SAQA, and statutory professional bodies

Interaction with DoHET, CHE/ HEQC, USA (Universities South Africa), SAQA, and statutory professional bodies in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences is facilitated via the Teaching and Learning Committee. The Teaching and Learning Committee is the oversight committee that ensures that all mandates as regulated by the above mentioned bodies are adhered to in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences.

Coordinate teaching and learning

The following will receive attention, in line with the terms of reference of the Senate Teaching and Learning Committee:

  • Academic planning and development.
  • Quality assurance.
  • Introduction or discontinuation of qualifications, curricula, subjects and courses.
  • Admission requirements for specific academic programmes.
  • Number of students who may be admitted to a specific programme as well as the method of selection.
  • The minimum admission requirements for re-admission to the university.
  •  Innovative teaching and learning strategies are explored, and benchmarking and best practices aligned within the university and with other institutions. Teaching innovation is constantly enabled and monitored.

Implement, monitor and review Regulations as approved by Senate

The Teaching and Learning Committee ensures that regulations as prescribed by the Senate regarding academic matters are implemented. The Committee also continuously monitors existing and proposed rules and regulations to have maximum impact and effect.

Assume a strategic role.

The Teaching and Learning Committee will participate in the strategic planning of the Faculty, contribute to the annual Faculty plan and provide input into the Faculty strategic resource plan.
