The SARChI chair has some funding opportunities for researchers and students.

The NRF has announced one call for funding applications for 2023 academic registration. The one-call approach includes all NRF postgraduate bursaries

Attached, kindly find the 2023 call and guidelines for your perusal.

 
All applications will have to be submitted on the new NRF connect system available on nrfconnect.ac.za. An applicant will have to register for an ORCID ID prior to accessing the system (instructions are available in the guidelines). If your interest are in Mathematical Biology, please contact [email protected] or [email protected] to get the ORCID ID (UID) needed to apply.
 
Internal deadlines vary between 1 July 2022 and 1 November 2022. Students need to please read the attached document which outlines the deadlines for each programme and are requested to adhere to these dates, as no late applications will be accepted.
Grant-holder linked bursary applications for first time Honours, Masters and Doctoral will be reviewed by the Grant Management Unit at Department of Research and Innovation (DRI)

Continuing grant-holder linked bursars are required to complete an APR for renewed funding in 2023. 
The APR submission dates will be communicated later during 2022. 
 
All other NRF bursary applications, including grant-holder linked applications for extensions, are administered by the Graduate Support Hub.

Information Session for first-time grant-holder bursary applicants (honours, masters and doctoral)
The Grant Management Unit will facilitate a virtual information session for first time grant-holder linked applicants on: Tuesday, 7 June from 10:00 -12:00. 
A link to the virtual meeting room will be shared next week. Researchers are requested to encourage their students to attend this session. 
 
This session will cover: 
(1) An overview of the different types of NRF bursaries 
(2) Submission process for grant-holder linked bursaries 
(3) Eligibility criteria 
(4) How to apply on the NRF system 
(5) Review process 
(6) Appeals
