Sol Plaatje University hosted a research writing enhancement and publication support programme webinar on 18 May 2021, with the theme: Bibliometrics, online researcher profiles and publication guidelines. Associate Professor, Marlene Holmner, presented the topic Bibliometrics and researcher profiles.

In the presentation titled, Measuring and promoting research output (Bibliometrics and Altmetrics) – the role of the Academic Library, Prof Holmner discussed how traditional metrics (Bibliometrics) is used to measure research productivity and success. The presentation also examined Altmetrics as altmetrics are not a replacement for traditional measures in discerning the impact of research, but they do and can complement traditional measures. The need for research e-visibility was discussed and strategies supplied that could help to improve your researcher’s / research discoverability and accessibility. Social media and other research platforms used to increase visibility of researcher and research, such as ORCID, Research Gate and Academia.edu was discussed.
