Ms Annique Smith: Profile

My ideas on Teaching and Learning

I believe that learning is only successful if it is enduring. In my opinion, a successful learning situation occurs when a student gains new knowledge in an area along with the ability to creatively use this knowledge to solve a variety of problems.

I see my role as a teacher as one where I partner with the students to create situations which foster learning. This involves making use of student-centered, active learning approaches that give the students control over their own education so that they can gain the skills needed for lifelong learning.

I am passionate about teaching and learning theory and spend time improving my knowledge in this field so that I can improve my teaching practices.

I also believe that the innovative use of technology in educational environments can have a positive effect on learning outcomes and as a result of this my research primarily focuses on the use of gamification in higher education.
