Bursaries available for UP Law students
Undergraduate
The Faculty of Law (UP Law) offers bursaries on behalf of various donors. These are the discretionary bursary awards available to registered students who are financially needy and/or academically deserving, and who meet the set requirements.
These bursaries are placed under the management of the Faculty which administers the bursary fund in accordance with the agreed regulations. The faculty of law identifies eligible students as per the agreed criteria. The students considered must be BEE candidates (South African Black, Coloured and Indian).
There are no obligations on students who accept the award to work back, or to repay the award to the donor or to UP. However, should a student submit signed documents, it serves as acknowledgement that he/she does not have current funding or bursaries that precludes them from accepting the bursary award.
Applying for the award does not guarantee the granting of the award. The value of the award is intended to cover tuition fees. Funds will be disbursed to the student account of selected students. The bursary awards are not guaranteed and disbursements are subject to the availability of funds; therefore, it is advisable that students who are financially needy should also apply for other financial aid/funding opportunities.
Surplus funds in any student’s account can, unfortunately, not be paid out directly to a student. Should any of the recipients of these awards have a credit at the end of an academic year, such funds must remain in the student’s account to be used during the following year’s studies. Similarly, should a student have completed his or her studies, the remaining funds may not be paid out to the student and will be transferred to the Faculty of Law Bursary Fund.
Students documents received for this purpose will be kept in a database solely for the purposes and reasons associated with bursary awards.
Application process
UP Law will identify eligible students and invite them to apply whenever there is an opportunity.
