Doctoral Programme

The University of Pretoria's Faculty of Law offers PhD programmes to qualifying individuals. The programmes are meticulously planned and research-based. Doctoral applicants will collaborate with our eminent, devoted, and experienced faculty members, who will supervise them throughout their research careers. To enable a positive research experience, the Faculty offers broad support and a conducive working environment to all our doctoral candidates. The Faculty of Law's PhD offering enables students to specialise in their chosen topics.

UP Law's doctorate programme entails the successful completion of:

(a)  A module on research methodology;

(b)  Research proposal;

(c)  Thesis under the guidance of a supervisor;  and

(c)  Oral examination.

A section of the Oliver R Tambo Law Library has been exclusively designated as a study area for postgraduate students. It has been equipped with computers, a printer, and study stations.  Postgraduate students are invited to take advantage of this facility.
