Admission requirements

  1. MBChB (or equivalent) degree or relevant medical degree with modules equivalent to at least the first two years of the MBChB degree
  2. Currently registered as a physician with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and must have been registered for at least one year

Examinations and pass requirements

  1. The examinations for each year of study will take place during the summer examination period. 
  2. To pass in a module, a minimum final mark of 50% is required. 
  3. In addition to the examination, a student will be required to complete all practical work (WKT 881; WKT 882; WKT 883)  satisfactorily, as well as prepare a research report (NAV 882) and pass the final research report (NAV 883) (minimum pass mark 50%), in order to comply with all the requirements for the degree.
  4. Second examinations will not be held until at least six months have elapsed since conclusion of the examination in which the student failed. 
     

Pass with distinction

The degree will be conferred with distinction on a student who has obtained a final mark of at least 75% in the following modules: 

  1. Medical pharmacology (MFM 802, MFM 803)
  2. Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics 802 and 803 (FFD 802, FFD 803) 
  3. The Research report (NAV 883) in the final year of study.
