Future Africa – 1HOPE Webinar Series Part 2

During part two of the Future Africa – 1Hope Webinar Series, held on the 2nd of December 2020, we engaged with panels that are specifically transdisciplinary in nature. There were speakers from various global institutions that shared their knowledge and expertise.

 

The first session of the Webinar Series part 2, One Health Transdisciplinary Networks, chaired by Prof. Wondwossen Gebreyes (Executive Director of the Global One Health initiative (GOHI) at the Ohio State University, United States of America), consisted of:

  • Ms. Barbara Martin (Executive Director of the World Association of Veterinary Laboratory Technicians - Global Laboratory Leadership Program, United States of America),
  • Dr. Vipat Kuruchittham (Executive Director of the Southeast Asia One Health University Network (SEAOHUN) in Thailand),
  • Dr. Irene Naigaga (Regional Programme Manager and Agnes Yawe Partnerships, Africa One Health University Network (AFROHUN) in Uganda),
  • Dr. Ayodele Odusola (Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)).

After the first session, chaired by Dr. George Lueddeke (Chair of the International One Health for One Planet Education Initiative (1HOPE) in the United Kingdom), we engaged with the first panel, Trandisciplinarity and the Social Sciences, which included:

  • Ms. Ediola Pashollari (Secretary General of the World Assembly of Youth (WAY) in Malaysia),
  • Prof. Shakila Dada (Director of the Centre for Alternative and Augmentative Communication (CAAC) at the University of Pretoria (UP) in South Africa),
  • Prof. Rohini Roopnarine (Professor at St George’s University in Grenada, West Indies),
  • Ms. Aisha Nankanja (Sociologist from Uganda).

Panel two, Trandisciplinarity and the Social Sciences, was chaired by Prof. Liesel Ebersöhn (Director of the Centre for the Study of Resilience (CSR) at UP in South Africa), and consisted of the following speakers:

  • Prof. Chrisna du Plessis (Chair of the Department of Architecture at UP in South Africa),
  • Dr. Olutayo Babalobi (Consultant, lecturer, and researcher at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria),
  • Prof. Funke Omidire (Senior lecturer and researcher in the Department of Educational Psychology at UP in South Africa),
  • Prof. Maretha Visser (Counselling psychologist at UP in South Africa).

We concluded the second Webinar Series with a contentious discussion on The Earth Charter Pillars by Ms. Alicia Jiménez (Director of Programmes at the Earth Charter International in Costa Rica) followed by a discussion on The Lancet One Health Commission by Dr. John Amuasi (Co-Chair of The Lancet One Health Commission and the Executive Director of the African Research Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases (ARNTD) in Ghana).
