The Chair’s field of expertise in mathematical modelling, applied analysis and dynamical systems theory. Areas of interest that is explored include epidemiological models with age structure, opulation dynamics including nonlocal models of aggregation and fragmentation of phytoplankton and fast migrations in space structured models, multiple scale epidemiological and ecological models, as well as of a monograph on modelling with difference and differential equations. In the context of this CoP, the Chairs expertise in malaria modelling and mathematical epidemiology as well as population dynamics will be used to predict outcomes of malaria elimination strategies. The Chair functions directly in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics of the University of Pretoria. The Chair also has had a close relation with the DST/NRF South African Centre for epidemiology and Analysis in Stellenbosch.
