Stakeholders & Collaborators

UP ISMC

The Chair of Prof Lyn-Marie Birkholtz functions in the University of Pretoria Institute for Sustainable Malaria Control (UP ISMC), a MRC Collaborating Centre for Malaria Research. The UP ISMC is a fully integrated, multi-disciplinary, interfaculty initiative that coordinates and promote collaborative research on safer and sustainable malaria control and management strategies.

m.ERA.net

As part of its collaborative expansion and building an international profile the CoP has been awarded a grant under the DFG German-African cooperation project in infectiology for the development of Polymer-drug systems for controlled delivery of transmission blocking antimalarial drug leads. This project will be performed in collaboration with Prof Albena Lederer (Center Macromolecular Structure Analysis at the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, IPF Dresden and holder of SASOL Chair of Analytical Polymer Science at the Department Chemistry and Polymer Science, Stellenbosch University).

Under this grant the CoP aims to incorporate lead compounds with transmission blocking activity into polymer delivery systems with slow and sustained release of active compounds specifically targeting gametocytes.

One Health

The CoP umbrellaed under the UP ISMC is a fully integrated multidisciplinary collaborative centre that bridges various scientific disciplines develop sustainable solutions to harmonise human, animal and the ecological interface. The various objectives and projects of the CoP fully aligns itself with the UP One Health for Change.
