UPmalariaCoP

The University of Pretoria (UP) host’s the Community of Practice (CoP): Evaluation of Malaria Control Interventions.  This National Research Foundation (NRF) initiative in the UP Institute for Sustainable Malaria Control (UP ISMC) incorporates the expertise of six DST/NRF South African Research Chairs (SARChI) from four of the top research- intensive universities in the country. The project is led by Prof L Birkholtz with Prof J Banasiak, (University of Pretoria), Prof K Chibale (University of Cape Town), Prof L Koekemoer (WITS University) and Profs B Klumperman and J Snoep (Stellenbosh University).  The SARChI Chairs involved in this initiative make up the key components in the malaria drug discovery value chain, which aligns with malaria elimination in mind. The aim of the CoP is thus to use integrative and innovative research to advance scientific knowledge on antimalarial drug discovery towards malaria elimination, to address the societal challenges associated with the disease.
