Inspiring Futures: Career Expo and Stationery Drive at Madisong Secondary

Posted on April 22, 2025

On 11 April, a bright and hopeful day, UP RAG had the privilege of organising in a dynamic Career Expo and Stationery Drive hosted at Madisong Secondary School. This impactful outreach initiative aimed not only to expose learners to a variety of career paths available at the University of Pretoria but also to support them with the tools they need to succeed in their academic journey. To say this event was a frutiful one would be an understatement.

The Career Expo created a space where curiosity met opportunity. Learners engaged with student representatives from various faculties and Junior Tukkie, who shared their personal academic journeys and unpacked the wide range of study programmes available at UP. Their stories of resilience, growth, and purpose offered learners real-life insight into what it means to transition from high school into higher education, and how to navigate that path with intention.

More than just sharing information, the expo offered mentorship and encouragement — empowering learners to dream beyond their current circumstances and see themselves in spaces of higher learning and professional growth.

Recognising that access to resources is just as important as access to information, the event was paired with a Stationery Drive. Thanks to the generous contributions of our partners and supporters, we were able to distribute essential school supplies to learners — a simple but significant gesture that supports their academic journey.

A special thank you goes to Law House for their generous donation of erasers. These small yet essential tools are a reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can leave a lasting mark.

Special thanks to Student Culture (Stuku) and the Student Sport Committee (SSC) for joining us and sharing the spirit of UP student life. From leadership to sport, you helped paint a full picture of what’s possible when students #ChooseUP.

This collaboration between UP RAG, Law House, the Faculty Student Representatives, and Madisong Secondary reflects the true spirit of community engagement — one where access, empowerment, and education come together. It is a reminder that when we invest in learners, we invest in the future.

Here’s to the young dreamers of Madisong Secondary — the future scholars, leaders, and changemakers.
