On a recent outreach initiative, UP RAG had the privilege of visiting the Phyllis Robertson Home for Disabled Adults, a professionally run care facility nestled in a tranquil garden setting in Pretoria. This home, which has been a sanctuary for adults with disabilities since 1961, provides care and support to up to 67 residents who require various levels of assistance, from standard to full dependent care.
During our visit, UP RAG made a meaningful contribution by donating many cans of food, supporting the facility’s ongoing efforts to provide meals to its residents. However, our visit wasn’t just about donations it was about connecting with the community. We spent the day with the residents, playing games, engaging in conversations, and sharing stories. It was an enriching experience as we interacted with the elderly, learning from their wisdom and sharing moments of laughter.
In addition to playing games, we also helped out with daily tasks, including washing dishes, and enjoyed tea with the residents, fostering a sense of community and companionship. The experience allowed us to see firsthand the incredible care and love the staff at Phyllis Robertson Home put into their work, creating a safe and supportive environment for their residents.
As Karen Klopper, a parent of one of the residents, shared: “Phyllis Robertson is more than just a home for the adult disabled, it is THEIR HOME.” The staff here work tirelessly, treating each resident like family and ensuring they receive not only physical care but psychosocial support, medical assistance, and social stimulation every single day.
Phyllis Robertson Home is a privately funded non-profit organization, receiving no government subsidies. They rely on residence fees, donations, fundraising, and volunteers to continue their invaluable work.
We are incredibly grateful to have spent this time at Phyllis Robertson, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff for their dedication and kindness. Your hard work is an inspiration, and we look forward to supporting this wonderful community in the future.
