On Thursday, 10 April, UP RAG hosted a powerful and enlightening Transformation Seminar titled “RAG Let’s Be Real”. The event brought together students for an open, honest, and much-needed dialogue on two topics often avoided due to societal taboos — mental health and sex.
Organised by UP RAG’s Transformation Officer, Eulogy Khoza, the seminar provided a safe and engaging space for attendees to unpack personal and societal narratives surrounding these issues. The session was led by Chris Joubert from the Centre for Sexualities, AIDS and Gender (CSA&G), who guided the conversation with care, sensitivity, and depth.
He highlighted the intersection between mental health and sexual well-being, discussing the importance of understanding sex, consent, communication and emotional safety. Students were encouraged to reflect on how these aspects show up in their lives, relationships, and broader communities. The session concluded with a dynamic Q&A, allowing attendees to voice their concerns, clarify doubts, and deepen their understanding.
Attendees praised the seminar for being informative, eye-opening, and refreshingly real — living up to its name. By breaking the stigma and promoting a culture of openness, “RAG, Let’s Be Real” reminded us that transformation begins with education, empathy, and the courage to talk about the hard stuff.
UP RAG remains committed to creating spaces where students feel seen, heard, and supported. This seminar is a testament to that commitment — and just the beginning of many more conversations to come.
