Congratulations, Dr. Kuhlula Maluleke, on earning an NRF Y2 rating! Dr. Maluleke, a senior lecturer in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the School of Health Systems and Public Health (SHSPH), continues to rise as a remarkable emerging researcher. She began her PhD journey during the global COVID-19 pandemic—a time that challenged many in academia. Yet, she persevered, completing her doctorate in record time and producing high-impact research that led to the publication of five manuscripts in internationally accredited journals.
Following her PhD, Dr. Maluleke seamlessly transitioned into a postdoctoral position, where her dedication to research and mentorship flourished. During this time, she successfully supervised two Master’s students to completion and offered teaching and biostatistical support across the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Now, as a senior lecturer, Dr. Maluleke is making an even greater impact. She has since supervised three additional Master’s students to completion and currently has one PhD student under examination. In her role, she teaches epidemiology and biostatistics, provides biostatistical consultations to support students and staff, and leads epidemiology-informed research focused on addressing supply chain management challenges for essential health products in resource-limited settings. Her work explores how inefficiencies in the supply chain affect timely disease diagnosis, treatment initiation, and surveillance—thereby contributing to efforts aimed at strengthening health systems and promoting equitable healthcare access.
Dr. Maluleke’s NRF Y2 rating is a well-deserved recognition of her commitment to research, mentorship, and service.
