Postgraduate Support

The University of Pretoria is South Africa’s largest producer of weighted research output according to the Department of Higher Education and Training. Our research ethos is to create knowledge through research that has an impact in providing African solutions for local and global problems in a sustainable way. In order to do so, postgraduate students #ChooseUP to apply for one of our internationally recognised programmes which will hone research skills.

In order to assist in being able to meet the expectations of a postgraduate degree, the University of Pretoria provides its students with a support service to make the transitions in various postgraduate programmes easier. The Postgraduate Support Office (PSO) facilitates and coordinates the processes and activities aimed at developing and supporting postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows who #ChooseUP.

This support enables postgraduate students to become a closer part of the University community and to contribute to the University’s strategic vision of being a leading research-intensive university in Africa. The PSO promotes postgraduate education and research productivity through the [email protected] Programme which facilitates research skills development, and workplace readiness.

The PSO further provides information on postgraduate study programmes, research opportunities, funding opportunities, and research support to prospective students.

Our office collaborates with the academic staff in the University's nine faculties and one business school, as well as with the support units in the University Library Services, to ensure positive research training experiences that lead to relevant and high-quality research outputs that address national, regional and global research challenges.
