The University of Pretoria (UP) offers a range of academic and other support to ease your postgraduate journey so that you can make a difference with your knowledge and skills. Through programmes like FlyHigher@UP, the journey directs students to the Postgraduate Support Hub, the Department of Research and Innovation and other relevant entities within UP.

FlyHigher@UP

The FlyHigher@UP programme provides holistic assistance to postgraduate students from the point of recruitment to graduation, including providing administrative, academic, financial and social support.

The support offered includes:

Research methodology and proposal writing training
Hands-on data analysis training
Writing skills training (thesis, dissertation, journal publications)
One-on-one consultations
Soft skills training
Bursaries and scholarships

Library

The Department of Library Services has nine faculty libraries spread over all the University of Pretoria (UP) campuses. These provide access to a range of print and digital publications, and specialised services.

Each department at the University has a dedicated information specialist (trained librarian) who specialises in that department’s resources. The information specialists can help with:

literature searches
relevant information
referencing
information literacy training
research data management
bibliometric analysis for funding and NRF applications
appropriate accredited journals to publish in
information on predatory journals

AND THEN THERE'S LIBBY ... The Department of Library Services is at the forefront of our 41R focus with a rather interesting 'staff member': Libby, our resident library robot. She weighs just 19kg, stands 90cm tall and sports more than 60 sensors. She performs general mundane, repetitive tasks which frees up other staff members to do more specialised and advanced work, like helping you.

It is essential to stay focused on the important academic goals and to manage life stressors and unexpected events in an optimal way. Your mental health matters at UP. Our Student Counselling Unit offers a variety of services to support your mental well-being.

WIFI Access Each campus of the University has internal and external access to Wifi. You can look for the official WiFi signage indoors or outside buildings, which indicate WiFi coverage for the specific area on the campus grounds.
