On Saturday the 5th of March 2022, the Department of Information Science participated in an outreach to Edward Phathudi Comprehensive School in Atteridgeville as part of the Adopt-a-School program initiated by the EBIT Faculty.

This participation was a joint effort between the Department of Information Science and EXXARO Chair in XR Technology, which made it possible for virtual reality technology to be showcased to the high school learners. This equipment was provided by EXXARO Chair, and the learners were given the opportunity to interact with the technology and learn about the ways in which it is being used within the university and by the Chair to develop training simulations for mining engineering.
