Retirement of Mr Wynand Breytenbach

Posted on January 27, 2020

It is with fond memories that the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering had to bid farewell to Mr Wynand Breytenbach when he retired at the end of 2019.

Wynand started his career in 1976 as a Mathematics and Economics teacher at the Transvaal Education Department. He later entered the private sector as a Senior Quality Control Officer in 1984. Wynand joined the University of Pretoria in 2011 as a senior lecturer in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, where he taught various undergraduate and postgraduate quality management and statistics related subjects.

Since joining our Department, Wynand has positively impacted his colleagues and students. He was always friendly, approachable and went out of his way to help. He willingly took responsibility for additional modules when the need arose in the Department and never complained about the increased workload. Wynand also served as one of the final year project coordinators from 2016 to 2019, a task which he undertook with great enthusiasm and diligence.

Wynand’s retirement is a big loss to the Department. We will always remember him as a pleasant and reliable person with a passion for teaching and learning and wish him well with his retirement and future endeavours. We thank him for his contribution to our Department and the lasting impact he made in the lives of our students and staff members.
