In 1994, South Africa became a democratic nation that saw the official end of its racial segregation policy of apartheid. Since that time the government has embarked on an aggressive policy initiative to redress the injustices of the past and to achieve equality. This addresses the results of a recent study of the diversity and transformation initiatives of organisations within South Africa. The results reveal the unique challenges of attaining equality in a context where the goal is social justice and equity for the majority instead of a minority.
