As an academic department, we aim to provide cutting-edge, nationally and internationally significant research that contributes to innovative knowledge. The department boasts with seven NRF-rated researchers, highlighting our research standing nationally and internationally. Our academics are well equipped and specialised with various methodologies, which benefits our students interested in expanding their research skills.

The Department of Human Resource Management provides applicable, progressive and contemporary programme content to our students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We offer quality-driven programmes linked to the needs of the labour market and other relevant external stakeholders. Our MCom Industrial and Organisational Psychology program is accredited by the Professional Board of Psychology (Health Professions Council of South Africa) and the Human Resource Management and Labour Relations undergraduate and postgraduate degrees with the South African Board for People Practices. We received re-accreditation from both entities in 2023. The Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences (EMS) also received accreditation from the prestigious international professional body, Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), effective in 2023. Our Faculty is the first of its kind in Africa to receive and form part of 6% of business schools across the globe to be accredited by this institution. This involves all the degree programmes offered in our department.

The Department uses an Advisory Board of industry experts to assist with the quality control of programme content at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We are committed to delivering competent employees with the necessary expert knowledge to address critical employee-related issues in organisations and the resilience to adapt to the changing needs and trends in the world of work.
