Message from the HOD

Welcome to the Department of Human Resource Management's webpage.

As an academic department, we aim to provide research that is cutting-edge, nationally and internationally significant, and contributes to innovative knowledge. Currently, six NRF-rated researchers are affiliated with our Department (one of our rated researchers, Prof Stella Nkomo, is A-rated), which highlights our research standing on a national and international level. Our academics are well equipped and specialised with various methodologies, which benefits our students interested in expanding their research skills.

The Department of Human Resource Management provides applicable, progressive and contemporary programme content to our students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We offer quality-driven programmes linked to the needs of the labour market, as well as to other relevant external stakeholders. Our MCom Industrial and Organisational Psychology program is accredited with the Professional Board of Psychology (Health Professions Council of South Africa) and the Human Resource Management and Labour Relations undergraduate and postgraduate degrees with the South African Board for People Practices.

At the onset of 2018, the Department established an Advisory Board consisting of industry experts to assist with the quality control of programme content on undergraduate and postgraduate level. We are committed to delivering competent employees that have the necessary expert knowledge to address critical employee-related issues in organisations, and the resilience to adapt to the changing needs and trends in the world of work.

We can assist you in becoming a future leader in the fields of industrial and organisational psychology, human resource management or labour relations. We offer you the opportunity to become a scholar of note and to be part of a network of academics and industry partners striving for excellence in research and practice.
