The title of the thesis is Managing problems and pressures facing single mothers in management and professional occupations in South African organisations.

The study focused on the social and psychological problems as women struggle to balance work and home responsibilities with the feminisation of the labour market. The primary objective of the research was to develop a valid and reliable measuring instrument to survey the problems and pressures experienced by single mothers in management and professional occupations in South Africa.

The research also sought to survey single working mothers’ perceptions about the resources they believe to be important in supporting them in dealing with high job and family demands and to cope with stress; as well as to make recommendations regarding possible support systems and practices that organisations could implement to assist single mothers in coping with work and family pressures and stress.
