SANPAD is a unique collaborative research programme that has been financed by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1997. SANPAD funds high-quality, collaborative research by South African researchers in association with Netherlands researchers.

The Department was one of a few South African higher education institutions to receive this prestigious research grant. The project will end in June 2013.

The Departmental project team includes: Dr Nicolene Barkhuizen (Project leader), Proff Yvonne Du Plessis, Stella Nkomo, Karel Stanz and Ms Nasima Carrim. The VU project team includes: Proff Paul Jansen, Svetlana Khapova and Dr Josje Dikkers.
