SIOPSA hosts conference

Postgraduate students of the Department of Human Resource Management at UP’s Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences assisted with the registration of delegates on arrival at the Conference.

Prof Karel Stanz, Head of the Department of Human Resource Management, was elected as president of SIOPSA for another term.

During the 2011 SIOPSA Conference, national and international researchers and practitioners discussed contemporary issues in organisational and industrial psychology. As in the past, the SIOPSA Conference was CPD accredited. The conference programme featured a range of events to cater for the diverse scientific and practical interests of the delegates.

Among the international experts who shared their expertise at the Conference, was Dr James Outtz and Prof Gary Latham. Dr James Outtz is a renowned industrial psychologist from Washington DC. As the CEO of Outtz & Associates he specialises in the development, validation and evaluation of staff selection practices. He has nearly thirty years’ experience as a consultant and is an expert in race discrimination law. He is also the author of numerous chapters in books, journal articles and book reviews.

Prof Gary Latham is the Secretary of State Professor of Organisational Effectiveness in the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Prior to joining Rotman in 1990, he was the staff psychologist for the American Pulpwood Association, the Weyerhaeuser Corporation, and chair of the Department of Management at the University of Washington. Prof Latham is one of the past presidents of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA), the Society for Industrial-Organisational Psychology (SIOP), and President-elect of Work and Organisational Psychology, a division of the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP).
