UP active at conference for industrial and organisational psychology

Posted on July 25, 2012

The conference offered more than 800 presentations, including poster sessions and an impressive line-up of invited and keynote speakers. Attendees were free to choose from several concurrent sessions on topics ranging from testing and assessment to legal issues and team coaching. They were also invited to attend the ‘conference within a conference’ on the topic of “Science and Practice Perspectives on Contemporary Workplace Discrimination.”

SIOPSA’s President elect, Karel Stanz of the University of Pretoria and two SIOP past Presidents, Gary Latham of the University of Toronto and current SIOP Foundation President, Milton Hakel of the Bowling Green State University, presented a joint session on building international linkages focusing on I-O psychology, science, academia (sabbaticals) and practice. This joint session was the first presidential undertaking by SIOP and SIOPSA and created the opportunity to build linkages to South African I-O psychology practice and science. Gary Latham and Milt Hakel reflected on the value added from international collaborations.

The conference closed with a keynote address from one of the most influential psychologists in the world, Dr Albert Bandura. After Dr Bandura’s widely attended address, the audience witnessed the ceremonial passing of the gavel from Adrienne Colella to incoming President, Doug Reynolds, followed by Reynolds’ presidential address. President elect, Karel Stanz conveyed SIOPSA’s congratulations to the two presidents. The 28th annual SIOP conference will take place at the Hilton Americas-Houston hotel in Houston, Texas, from 11 to 13 April 2013.
