Seasonal forecast for December 2021 available

Posted on December 17, 2021

The December Seasonal Forecast Worx predicts weak La Nina conditions during summer, with ENSO-neutral conditions after that. Rain also looks favourable. There are predominantly above-normal rains expected over the larger part of the forecast region, except over the northwest and northeast where it is likely to be dry. Parts of the coastal regions are also likely to be dry, including the southwestern Cape, which is expected to be wet at first.

The forecasts further predict that cooler and near-normal maximum temperatures are expected over the larger part of the region with warmer than average conditions likely only during autumn.

Finally, the tailored forecasts agree with the rainfall forecasts for Southern Africa. These include increased farm rainfall and crop yield, and increased inflow into Lake Kariba.

The forecast can be accessed here. Have a look at our archive of forecasts here.
