The pandemic and crime rates: Insights from criminologists webinar

Posted on July 01, 2021

Prof Gregory Breetzke was a panellist at a global Thought Leadership webinar held on Tuesday 29th June on the topic The pandemic and crime rates: Insights from criminologists. The webinar gathered several leading experts in the field of crime science to discuss the topic of the pandemic and associated crime rates globally. The webinar dealt with questions such as:

  1. What has happened to crime rates during the pandemic?
  2. How offender adapted and what does this mean for crime prevention?

Prof Breetzke and fellow panellists Prof Nick Tilley (UCL, UK), and Prof Andy Newton (Nottingham Trent University, UK) discussed current crime trends and the ways these have been changed by the pandemic, as well as implications for crime prevention and security, and an evaluation of the likely longer term crime patterns in a post pandemic world.

A blog based on the webinar as well as a recording is available on the website. It can also be viewed on the ‘Security and Crime’ YouTube channel.
