International Summer School (2018) in Siberia, Russia

Posted on August 09, 2018

Lecturers and students from all over the world were hosted by the researchers at Tomsk State University in the Altai region of Siberia. The objectives were to share knowledge and expertise with respect to studies in climate change, and to forge friendships and professional relationships that would potentially lead to collaborative research opportunities. Delegates attended lectures on the research being conducted at Aktru Research Station, received training in field measurement techniques, and presented lectures on their own fields of expertise. Of particular value to South African scientists was an opportunity to observe the effects of climate change in a Northern Hemisphere environment, which differs significantly from that which is typically observed in Southern Africa.

The Summer School is organised annually by Tomsk State University. Our Department is the current chair of the 'Ecology and Climate change' BRICS ITG and the Department was instrumental in obtaining funding from the BRICS Network University for the South African delegation to attend the Summer School.
