Dr Marthinus Heystek

Dr Marthinus Heystek qualified in 1986 from the University of Pretoria. After his 1-year internship and 2-year compulsory military training he joined the Family Medicine Department at Kalafong Hospital. In 1994 he obtained his MPraxMed degree and was appointed as a Family Physician at Mamelodi Hospital. In 2000 he obtained a MSc in Sports Medicine. In 2006 he moved to the Family Medicine department at SBAH. He has a special interest in all types of "GP surgery". He is passionate about teaching practical skills to medical students and junior doctors. He has done more than 500 tonsillectomies. Currently he is a Head of Clinical Unit at SBAH. Outside of medicine he is a keen cyclist and completed 28 Argus (Cape Town Cycle Tours). He is a qualified UCI Level 1 cycling coach. He also has a keen interest in birds and photography.
