Family Medicine

Welcome to the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Pretoria

The Department of Family Medicine is in the School of Medicine in the UP Faculty of Health Sciences. Family Medicine is an academic discipline that takes a holistic, bio-psycho-social approach to health. Family physicians are involved in services that extend from private medical practitioners to public sector clinics, community health centers and district hospitals as well as across public, private and non-governmental organizations involved in health care and disease management. Family Medicine is critical to the integration of health care in the District Health System. On this site you will find out about our mission and vision, the academic programmes we offer and our areas of research. You can also learn about our facilities and resources as well as the diversity of staff and students involved in the department and our achievements. The UP Department of Family Medicine has one of the highest (Health Sciences) pass rates in South Africa and on the African continent.

Prospective students in need of more information are encouraged to contact the department.
