For the first time the SAMRC SACENDU project reports on community-based interventions

Posted on March 06, 2019

The South African Community Epidemiology Network on Drug Use (SACENDU) was established in 1996 to report on alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) use trends and associated consequences in South Africa. The members meet every six months to provide research data ‘on the nature and pattern of ATOD use, emerging trends, risk factors associated with ATOD use, characteristics of vulnerable populations, and consequences of ATOD use’ (http://www.mrc.ac.za/intramural-research-units/ATOD-sacendu).

For the first time the SACENDU report shares data on community-based harm reduction work and the UP Department of Family Medicine’s Community Oriented Substance Use Programme (COSUP) features prominently in the report.
