The Faculty of Law (UP Law) at the University of Pretoria (UP) announces with pride that Professor Ann Skelton, the UNESCO Chair of Education Law in Africa, has been appointed as a Visiting Professor in the Institute of Inspiring Children's Futures at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. The appointment is from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2022.
In response to this appointment, Skelton says that she is ‘honoured and excited to be connected with the active academics at the Institution of Inspiring Children’s Futures. I look forward to working with them on several initiatives that will make a difference in children's lives.'
Inspiring Children's Futures is a joint initiative at the University of Strathclyde with a collective vision of ensuring that children and young people have what they need to reach their full potential, particularly those who face adversity. Supporting children’s human rights and contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals are at the heart of their work.
Apart from Skelton being the UNESCO Chair of Education Law in Africa from 2013 and a United Nations Committee Member on the Rights of the Child since 2016, she won an award from the World’s Children’s Prize in 2012.
Skelton remains involved in a plethora of activities concerning the rights of children, and has inter alia played in integral role in compilation of the Abidjan Principles.
