Important dates
The academic year commences at the end of January/beginning of February. Doctoral students should aim to register preferably before the middle of March, but not later than end May. 

Should a student start his/her doctoral studies in the second semester, registration will be counted as a full academic year

Admission Requirements

An appropriate Master’s degree is required, the programme composition of which must include a heavy research component that led to a dissertation reflecting originality either in the content or in the presentation. (Please note that MTech degrees are not accepted.)

Closing dates for PhD applications are on the 30th of April of the admission year.
If you do not register for the year in which your application was accepted, you will need to reapply.
SAQA evaluation of qualifications is mandatory for international students. Peruse the info on the web page of the International Students Division (ISD) at https://www.up.ac.za/international-cooperation-division/article/2849660/students.
