Nadia M. Trent is a Senior Lecturer who joined the University of Pretoria after 10 years in industry. Her career has been focussed on the freight transport sector, seeking solutions from both a macro-economic policy and supply chain management perspective. During her time at the CSIR she was the scientific editor for the annual State of Logistics Survey for South Africa which brought together research from various think-tanks and universities in the country. This exposure took her to GAIN (Pty) Ltd where she worked on the team that developed and maintained the national freight demand and logistics cost models. These models are key inputs to infrastructure planning at Transnet (SOC), the Department of Transport and many more agencies. Her PhD research zoomed in on the application of complex network modelling to freight systems and the potential that has to improve both supply chain management and policy making. Back at UP, she is passionate about developing tomorrow's engineers through innovate learning experiences. As such she is the programme coordinator for the Vertically Integrated Projects Programme - a collaborative initiative with the Georgia Institute of Technology where she obtained her Masters degree.
