About: Building Resilience in Families

The aims of the study is:

  • To understand which roles care workers can potentially fulfil in enhancing family survival and effectiveness
  • To identify the potential forms of vulnerability that families in South African township areas may be exposed to.
  • To investigate the resilience of families, in terms of the key requirements for families to overcome adversity.
  • To investigate the reasons for care workers wanting to support vulnerable families
  • To gain insight into the perceptions related to support and resilience of both families and care workers
  • To contribute to the existing body of knowledge on vulnerable (township) families and the role of resilience in their coping with adversity
