Accreditation

All degree programmes of the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering are accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and are recognised as meeting the initial academic requirements for Professional Engineer in South Africa. International recognition of these programmes is also provided through the Washington Accord.

Recognition

The Department belongs to the Faculty’s School of Engineering, which is ranked in the top 1% in the world for research citations, as determined by the Web of Science Clarivate Analytics Essential Science Indicators. In addition, it has been rated as the 2023 top School of Engineering in South Africa and Africa according to the Best Global Universities for Engineering Ranking of the USS News and World Report.

According to the latest QS rankings of universities world-wide, the University of Pretoria is ranked as the top South African university for electrical and electronic engineering.
