2. Funding from The SARChI Chair

The SARChI Chair in Advanced Sensor Networks (ASN) which is co-hosted by the University of Pretoria and CSIR, carries out high level world class research in the broad areas of Wireless Sensor Networks, the Internet of Things, Smart Cities and several other areas related to ASN. There are several researchers in the ASN group at the University of Pretoria and also at CSIR.

The SARChI Chair at UP/CSIR offers scholarships for Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering studies only to South African students in the following areas:

• BEng (Honours)
• Masters
• Doctoral (PhD) (South African and a limited number of International)
• Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (South African and International).

The SENTECH Chair in BWMC and the SARChI Chair in ASN have been collaborating in the research area of cognitive radio networks for more than five years. Their joint focus has been in the area of resource allocation for cognitive radio networks, especially in the cases of underlay systems, and also applications of queueing theory to cognitive radio networks and wireless sensor networks. Recently the focus is on the role of 5G and IoT on smart cities and also on network restorations for wireless sensor networks. Jointly the two of them supervise several Masters and PhD students and postdoctoral fellows.
