The Educational Challenges of South Africa and Russia In Dialogue with Brazil: Possibilities in the BRICS Context

Between the 28th and the 30th of January 2024, 2,500 Multiple stakeholders (teacher and student unions, universities, school principals, MEC, and international observers) from municipal and provincial levels gathered for a Systemic engagement dialogue at the University of Brasilia (UnB) to attend the A Conferência Nacional de Educação (Conae) as an international observer and keynote speaker. The conference focussed on highlighting educational challenges present in South Africa and Russia to engage in dialogue concerning the educational landscape of Brazil. The invitation and conference were Inspired by Brazil’s challenge of union and reconstruction, with education as a strategic area in the hope of developing policy by dialoguing with other countries.

The national conference as a systematic process asked systemic participation. The conference was the culmination of 300 conferences in 4300 municipalities in 26 states.

The main goal of the conference was to envision a new 10-year plan for Brazils’s education. Motions from the 300 conferences were discussed in break-out groups and participants in the conference voted on the resolutions that could form part of the planned vision. The MEC will refine the suggested vision and plan in terms of feasibility and available resources.
