Dr Nombuso Gama is currently a Post Doctoral Fellow at the University of Pretoria. Her field of expertise is resilience. She is intrigued by what enables individuals to navigate the various risks they face in life. She believes this understanding could help mitigate various risks faced. She graduated for her resilience focused PhD in May, 2023 from the University of Pretoria. Her PhD investigated the resilience of emerging adults to stressors of Matsapha, Eswatini’s industrial hub.

She is currently working on the 2REST project. 2REST is a multi country project that investigates resilience to street temporalities in Africa. This project is led by research experts from the University of Pretoria, University of Dundee, Makerere University and University of Capetown.

Nombuso is no stranger to hardship. Growing up in the financially constrained environment of Eswatini exposed Nombuso to a variety of personal risks, thus igniting her love for resilience studies. Nombuso believes that even though stressors will always be a constant in people’s lives, but the power of support and collaboration could offset many risks faced; especially within the African context.
