The collaboration is focused on sharing research capacity to understand literacy strategies in remote, rural schools in emerging economy environments. During August 2011 Prof Deslea Konza accompanied Prof Liesel Ebersöhn and a group of educational psychology postgraduate students visited a site at a long-standing Mpumalanga partner, Ngilandi Secondary School. The Fogarty Learning Centre, ECU has similar partnerships with remote rural school-research sites in Australia, China and Mauritius.

By partnering with this South African school-community, comparative knowledge on literacy acquisition in multilingual school settings may be extended.
