Schools as Enabling Spaces for the Improvement of Quality of Life for Primary School Children Living in Rural South Africa - Project Resources

Project resources

Throughout the project, resources were co-generated to assist school leaders, teachers and community volunteer members in any school community to make use of the resources in their schools and classrooms. Resources include the Enabling Schools Toolkit consisting of three parts. Part A provides an overview of the Enabling Schools Toolkit (Enabling Schools Toolkit overview). Part B provides an overview of school leaders’ roles and activities, focusing on how they collaborate and support teachers and CRCs (The Enabling Schools Toolkit: Centralised Learning Dialogue Manual for School Leaders; The Enabling Schools Toolkit Manual). Lastly, part C introduces the three phases of the "Reading Cycle" and provides an overview of teachers’ and CRCs’ roles and activities (Reading Cycles for the Foundation Phase of Primary Schools - Summary; Reading Cycles for the Foundation Phase of Primary Schools; Reading books).

Learner-generated storybooks were created in the home language of Setswana together with the Community Reading Champions (CRCs) and teachers of the 10 pilot schools. Examples of these learner-generated books can be found here.
