Donations from alumni and the private sector are welcomed so that the Department can achieve its vision of becoming the leading research and teaching department in the disciplines of Zoology and Entomology in Africa.

In 2015, the Department of Zoology and Entomology engaged in the process of developing a strategic plan to align with the goals of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences and the University of Pretoria that are to be realised by 2025.

Our strategic objectives are to:

  1. Consist of an exceptional team of academics and support staff.  This objective requires that we attract and retain the best academics in our disciplines and are transformed in terms of South African realities.
  2. Operate in world-class facilities with sufficient support to maintain our research and teaching impact.  This will enable the Department to utilise the best teaching methods and achieve world-class learning outcomes and will require that the Department is sufficiently staffed and funded and will have sufficient freedom and flexibility to allocate resources to best effect.
  3. Obtain institutional and international recognition by increasing the impact of our research output and the production of highly sought after graduates.  The attainment of this objective will require that the Department attracts leading international academics and students that wish to collaborate with our academics.  We will do this through a focus on the unique biodiversity of Africa.

Donations to attract and support research students, and to expand and improve our current research facilities, will be gratefully accepted in pursuit of these strategic objectives.
