On this "Day in the life of the University of Pretoria", 04 February 2018, Tuks Fencing members competed in the SA National Youth Championships hosted in Cape Town. During the championship on 3 and 4 February, UP finished in second place overall. Gauteng as a province collected more medals than Free State and Western Cape, with 8 Gold, 10 Silver and 11 bronze medals.
Fencing gained popularity during the 1946 and 1947 and in 1946 and 1947 Nick Wasserthal from UP competed against the United Kingdom’s fencing club. UP’s fencing club was founded in 1950 and since 1951 the club participated in intervarsity matches. In 1956 and 1957 won the intervarsity fencing competition.
